Hawkeyes' Most Wanted

Yesterday, we took a closer look at the remaining needs for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2013 recruiting class. Now, it is time to discuss the top prospects that might be able to fill those needs. With 16 commits already in for a class that might finish around 20 members, there are only a few scholarships still available so the Iowa coaching staff can afford to be picky. Here is our best guess at the top five targets on their board currently.

Berkley Edwards
5-9, 189-pound RB
Chelsea, Michigan

The lowdown: Edwards is a prospect that Iowa offered at their camp in June after working him out at running back and slot receiver. Erik Campbell is the lead recruiter for the Hawkeyes and is very familiar with the family having coached his older brother Braylon Edwards during his time at Michigan. It seems like the younger Edwards has done well at every camp and combine he has attended this year, including some 4.3 forty times. With Iowa still looking for a running back in this class, landing the three-star prospect out of Michigan would be a key recruiting victory for the Hawkeyes.

The competition: Along with Iowa, Edwards currently holds scholarship offers from Cal, Minnesota, and several MAC schools. He also has interest from a number of others and attended camps at Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Michigan State this summer. Currently, it looks like Cal is Iowa's main competition if no other offers come in.
