In our weekly feature, the Recruiting Roundup, we take a look at all the latest news and notes in the world of Iowa football recruiting. That includes updates on potential targets, official visits, new scholarship offers, upcoming decisions, and much more.
With the Gophers in town last Saturday, the Iowa coaching staff invited a handful of top prospects from the state of Minnesota to Kinnick Stadium to watch the game. The biggest name was Class of 2014 running back Jeff Jones from Washburn High School in Minneapolis. The 6-foot-0, 190-pound Jones already holds a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes and was at Iowa's pre-season barbecue in late July. After the visit this past weekend, Jones said he was impressed with Iowa's 31-13 win over Minnesota and especially liked the way that Iowa ran the ball with new starter Mark Weisman gaining 177 yards in the game. Along with Iowa, the high school junior currently holds offers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Illinois, and Iowa State. Jones has now been to games at both Iowa and Minnesota this season and hopes to see Wisconsin and Michigan State later this fall.
