Big junior day on tap

The Iowa Hawkeyes are still putting the final touches on their 2013 recruiting class, but will be focusing on the future, the Class of 2014, this weekend as they host their first junior day of the year. In this update, we take a look at some of the top names expected to be in attendance, where Iowa currently stands in their recruiting, and much more.

For starters, the Hawkeyes will have a couple of quarterbacks in town that already hold scholarship offers in Dimonic McKinzy and Clayton Thorson. The 6-foot, 198-pound McKinzy is a dual-threat prospect from Kansas City who told us last month that Iowa is currently at the top of his list. Currently, he also has offers from Nebraska and Minnesota and interest from several programs throughout the Midwest.

For the 6-foot-4, 190-pound Thorson, it will be a return trip to Iowa City as he attended two Hawkeye games at Kinnick Stadium last season. Iowa was the first school to offer Thorson, who attends Wheaton North High School in Illinois, but has since been joined by Northwestern, Illinois, Penn State, Indiana, Northern Illinois, and NC State. Like McKinzy, Thorson is listed as a dual-threat prospect and actually split time between quarterback and wide receiver last season.
