Signing Day Predictions

The big question for Hawkeye fans heading down the stretch before signing day is how will this recruiting class end up? With only a few spots still open, which prospects will say yes to Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes and become part of the 2013 recruiting class?

As of this moment, the Hawkeyes have 16 verbal commitments in the Class of 2013. We haven't had a chance to speak directly with Kirk Ferentz since his press conference following the end of the 2012 season, but at that point, he said he expected this class to top out in the high teens.

I've pointed out many times that we've heard high teens in previous years and Ferentz and company always seem to find a way to get to 20, so that's the number we are going to go with once again this year. If they end up at 18 or 19, then it will be a bit of a surprise.

When we last spoke with Ferentz in December, he indicated their focus would be on finding linebackers and playmakers. Since that time they have received commitments from Damond Powell, a JUCO wide receiver, LeShaun Daniels, who flipped from Boston College to Iowa, and most recently, Desmond King, a cornerback who switched his commitment from Ball State to Iowa.

One other tell that we have received in talking to prospects in recent weeks is that Iowa would like to add two more wide receiver prospects, so keep that in mind as we look into our crystal ball.

Starting with the wide receiver position and going by what we have learned, the top two prospects on Iowa's board appear to be a pair of prospects out of the state of Texas, Cameron Smith and Anjeus Jones.
