Nelson learns more about Iowa
Cedar Rapids Xavier defensive end Matt Nelson has been a rising prospect this spring as he seems to add a new scholarship offer every week. This week, it was Notre Dame offering the 6-foot-8, 245-pound prospect, which was number eleven overall. On Thursday, Nelson visited one of the first schools to offer, the in-state Hawkeyes, as he stopped by campus in Iowa City.
"First, before practice, I got to see all of the academics and that sort of stuff," said Nelson. "I met with Ned Amendola and just talked with him about orthopedics and sports medicine. He told me what the university has to offer and what he did to get where he is today."
Nelson, who wants to be an orthopedic surgeon, also had a chance to sit down and talk with the Iowa coaches, who like his potential at defensive end, which is a key position for them in the Class of 2014.
