Talented in-state group visiting
A number of top in-state prospects will be making the trip to Iowa City on Saturday to get a closer look at what the Hawkeyes have to offer at their first junior day this year. We take a look at these prospects, where they sit in the recruiting process, and where they might project out at the college level.
Drew Cook, Iowa City Regina
Size: 6-foot-5, 205 pounds
College Position: Quarterback/Tight End
Recruiting: "I've gotten letters from Big Ten schools like Iowa and Nebraska. In the Big 12, it has been Kansas State and Iowa State. There are a couple of Ivy League schools like Penn, Princeton, and Cornell. Those are the main schools."
Bio: Cook's father, Marv, played for the Hawkeyes from 1984-1988 before playing in the NFL. The younger Cook has spent a lot of time growing up in Iowa City and has been around the program early and often. In his first year starting at the varsity level in 2013, he threw for 2,563 yards and 22 touchdowns while helping his team to the Class 1A state championship. If quarterback does not work out, he could move to tight end at the college level.
Anthony Nelson, Waukee
Size: 6-foot-6, 210 pounds
College Position: Defensive End/Tight End
Recruiting: "I have interest from Iowa, Iowa State, and North Texas. Those are the three biggest ones."
