August 31, 2010Williamsburg lineman Austin Blythe knows he will be playing against a future teammate this Friday. That player, Henry Krieger-Coble, is one of the reasons why this talented senior is not taking Mount Pleasant lightly on the gridiron.
"On paper, they look great. They got big, tall players. Obviously they have Darian Cotton and Henry Krieger-Coble both going Division I. They are two people to watch out for. We'll have to come ready to play just like every week. It is a big game so we have to play like it is the State championship."
Blythe knows that they will learn more about each other when they are both spending time in Iowa City next fall.
"I've talked to him but I don't really know him well. I'm excited to get to know all those recruits that are coming in."
Ending the recruiting process with a commitment to the Hawkeyes has made things easy for Blythe.
"I made my decision on a college so that'll help me. I don't have to be worrying about going places and being talked to by different people. I'm not stressed out with that decision. It is behind me and I'll play to get better every game. That is my focus this year."
Making unofficial visits this fall is something Blythe plans to do frequently.
"I think I'll be going as often as I can. I just want to keep getting more comfortable with the coaches and players that are already there. I'm not sure when I'll take my official. It'll be later in the year so we'll see."
Blythe and the Raiders opened the year strong with a big victory.
"It was good. We played CP-U and everyone played well. Nobody got injured and we won 55-7. There are still a few things we have to sharpen up on but for the first game of the year, I think we played well."
Getting things officially underway is something Blythe has been waiting for.
"It feels great. We have been practicing and going to camp for three weeks now. To get on the field again after a year is exciting. We were definitely ready to hit someone else finally. I think we were all ready for it."
