Funny. Ol' Doodle just came over here to post the same thing. It's time for the Dahm era to end.
Iowa Baseball is sorta kinda in the Iowa Men's Basketball situation. Dahm isn't a bad guy, or a terrible instructor of the game....but at the end of the day, the results just aren't there, and new blood is probably needed.
Actually, Ol' Doodle would compare Dahm to George Raveling a little more than Todd Lickliter in the sense that, the one thing Dahm has seemed competent at, is drawing in pretty darn good recruiting classes, especially relative to what Iowa and other Big Ten schools typically draw. But like with Raveling, these terrific recruiting classes, once on campus, don't necessarily produce great on field results.
With the last few recruiting classes, a truly proven college baseball winner could come in and maybe do some things. So perhaps it's time to make a serious run at someone with a truly impressive college baseball pedigree. Crack open the checkbook and see if we can't make Iowa baseball relevant again.
And then, if you can't land anyone worthwhile to lead the program....or if you do land someone and it still doesn't pan out...then it may be time, as sad as it is for Ol' Doodle to say outloud, to start taking a very serious look at the viability of the program going forward.
