Massachusetts WR is commit No. 1

After visiting Iowa City in early April, Massachusetts wide receiver Marcus Grant was close to committing, but decided to hold off and make sure he still felt the same once the initial reaction wore off. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Grant waited a couple of weeks, but still had the same feeling, so today he made the call and became the first verbal commitment for the Hawkeyes in the Class of 2011.

In committing to Iowa, Grant chose the Hawkeyes over scholarship offers from Syracuse and Connecticut. Schools such as Boston College, Stanford, Rutgers, and Maryland have also shown interest. After visiting Iowa City however, the wide receiver felt that he had found the right fit.

As a junior, Grant caught 22 passes for 413 yards and six touchdowns, and also rushed for 349 yards in earning first team all-league honors at Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA. With his size and playmaking ability, several coaches have told him he could make an early impact in college, including those at Iowa.
