Grant excited to have Orloff join him
Massachusetts wide receiver Marcus Grant was the first recruit to jump on board Iowa's 2011 recruiting class, but now he has plenty of company, including the most recent commit, his high school teammate Mike Orloff. We caught up with Grant to talk about Orloff joining the Hawkeyes, a recent combine they attended where he brought home an MVP award, and much more.
Q: What was it like when you found out Mike is going to be joining you at Iowa?
GRANT: I was real excited about it because I was pushing for him to commit the whole time. I was actually with him when told me. We were out at dinner with a couple of our other teammates and he told me he was ready to make a decision, so I told him to make the call to the coaches and he did. We were all real happy and congratulated him. Now, we're ready to take the next step forward.
Grant, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound wide receiver, verbally committed to Iowa in April over scholarship offers from Syracuse and Connecticut. The three-star prospect has since added an offer from Boston College, but remains solid with the Hawkeyes.
As a junior, Grant caught 22 passes for 413 yards and six touchdowns, and also rushed for 349 yards in earning first team all-league honors at Lawrence Academy, which is located in Groton, Massachusetts.
