The Ohio State coaching staff has been relatively conservative to this point with handing out offers to class of 2013 prospects. However, one prospect that may be in line for an offer in the near future is Youngstown (Ohio) Cardinal Mooney linebacker Courtney Love. The 6-foot-1, 222-pound prospect is one of Ohio's top juniors and was recently in Columbus for an unofficial visit when the Buckeyes hosted Wisconsin.

"That was awesome," said Love of his trip to Columbus. "That was my first time actually being there at Ohio State. I loved it."

Love added that he enjoyed the pre-game experience meeting the coaches as well as a former Buckeye legend. In fact, the Buckeyes could be looking to offer the hard-hitting linebacker in the near future.

"Me, my Dad, and my little brother went," he continued. "I had a chance to meet Eddie George and I talked to coach (Luke) Fickell, coach (Mike) Vrabel, and coach (Nick) Siciliano and they had a lot of good things to say. I like Ohio State and I think they are supposed to be offering pretty soon."

While the Buckeyes may be the next to offer, it was another Big Ten school that jumped into the fray this weekend when Michigan State came through.

"It was exciting," Love said of the offer from the Spartans. "I really didn't have any idea that they were going to offer. I took an unofficial visit there (for the Minnesota game) and when I went up there I went onto the field and coach (Mark) Dantonio and coach (Pat) Narduzzi came right over to me and I talked to coach Dantonio for like five minutes before the game. He was just telling me that he likes the way I play and likes my grades and that they were probably going to offer me."

Dantonio was true to his word as Love did in fact pick up the verbal offer over the weekend. Love said he enjoyed the atmosphere in East Lansing.

"I can't wait to get back up there," he said. "I liked it a lot. The atmosphere was great. The players played hard and they didn't quit. I was impressed with the way their defense stopped (Minnesota quarterback MarQueis Gray), they kept him contained for most of the game."

Previously, Love had mentioned an early top two of Nebraska and Ohio State, but the new offer from Michigan State puts the Spartans in the mix as well.

"Michigan State is definitely up there," he said. "Coach Dantonio is an intense coach, I like the way he coaches and coach Narduzzi is a great defensive coordinator."

Right now, Love has bigger things on his plate as his Cardinal Mooney team is eyeing another state championship. The Cardinals have a huge showdown with Steubenville on Friday night in Canton and Love knows that the game will likely be decided in the trenches.

"Right now we definitely have got to stop the run," he said. "A few of our big losses were because we couldn't stop the run. Against Lake Catholic, St. Ed's, and Ursuline we didn't do a good job of stopping the run."

The Steubenville/Mooney showdown reads more like a state final than a second round game but Love and his teammates are embracing the challenge.

"I look at it as a good thing," he said. "Our schedule really prepares us for the types of teams that we'll play in the playoffs."

Love added that he plans to make an unofficial visit to West Virginia at some point before the season is over.
