St. Louis teammates headed to Iowa

St. Louis teammates Don Shumpert and Christian Kirksey have made multiple visits to Iowa City this summer, but the next time they are in town it might feel a little different. That is because the talented duo are now future Hawkeyes as they made the call tonight and verbally committed to the Iowa coaching staff.

Kirksey and Shumpert each earned a scholarship offer after attending Iowa's camp in mid June. The teammates from Hazelwood East High School have stayed in close contact with the coaching staff ever since and visited again earlier this month to watch the Hawkeyes at work in pre-season camp.

Recently, the teammates had narrowed down their choices to two schools, Iowa and Minnesota. With the 2009 season approaching, the two sat down this week and compared the pros and cons between the Hawkeyes and Gophers as they set out to make a decision. Iowa ultimately won out as Kirksey will play outside linebacker and Shumpert free safety next year for the Hawkeyes.
