Jinning makes it official

Two days after saying that he would likely be committing to Iowa shortly, Texas linebacker Justin Jinning did just that. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Jinning returned home from his weekend visit to Iowa City and announced his verbal commitment to the Hawkeyes on Twitter this afternoon.

As a junior, Jinning earned first team all-district honors at The Colony High School after leading the team with 73 tackles on the season. The Hawkeyes were the first team to offer back in February and once they had a chance to get him on campus quickly impressed the Texas native.

"It's actually been really great just seeing the campus and the city life and meeting all the coaches and players and everything," said Jinning. "I was able to just kind of hang out and get a feel for how it would be

Iowa projects Jinning at outside linebacker in college and compares his skills to those of recent graduate Christian Kirksey, who was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the NFL Draft this spring.

"When I talked to Coach Reid, we watched a little bit of film and he showed me how my game really matches up well with their style of defense," he continued. "He showed me how I would be a great fit."

Jinning, a two-star prospect, is commitment No. 11 for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Class of 2015.
