A Trip Down Memory Lane

I have to be honest. I only own three Penn State programs. I did the 1984 game last season and the 2003 game isn't exactly in the distant past.

That left me with a 1975 program. The only problem is all I know about the game is the score. The Hawks got whooped 30-10. I usually supplement my feeble memory with resources like old Cedar Rapids Gazette or Des Moines Register articles. Failing that, I leaf through one of the Hawkeye books I have sitting on my shelf.

This week though, I was too busy to get to the library and it turns out that this game was so forgettable that it only merited one sentence in any of my other Hawkeye resources.

So there will be no Trip Down Memory Lane, merely a short walk around the block.

The Hawks came in 0-2 having lost 27-12 to Illinois and 10-7 at Syracuse.

Penn State won their first two games 26-25 at Temple and 34-14 at home against Stanford. A trip to Columbus resulted in a 19-7 Nittany Lion loss.

Coming in the Hawkeyes were led in rushing Rod Wellington (107, 4.9) and Bob Holmes (101, 4.6)

Dubuque native Tom McLaughlin was the QB (7-25, 107 yards) with Jim McNulty leading all receivers with only three catches.

Two Hawkeyes finished the season as all-Americans, tackle Rod Walters and guard Joe Devlin.

Let’s take a look at the two deeps from the game, followed by our week photo feature from the program.
