One of the more highly recruited prospects at the Hawkeye Tailgater in late July was Class of 2021 defensive back Daylan Carnell. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Indianapolis native came into the weekend with ten offers already on the table and left Iowa City with number eleven as the Hawkeyes were quick to throw their hat into the ring.

“The offer from Iowa was a blessing,” said Carnell. “Their school is definitely one that I’m considering as of right now.”

Overall, the trip was Carnell’s first visit to Iowa City, which gave him a better appreciation for the Hawkeye football program.

“The visit was nice,” Carnell said. “I got to tour the campus and talk to some coaches and also tour the facilities.”

Sitting down with the Iowa coaches, Carnell said they could see him playing both cornerback and safety in college and like what they have seen on film.

“I talked to Coach Parker, Coach Bell, and Coach Ferentz,” said Carnell. “They were just telling me that they like my size and my speed at the defensive back position.”

As he gets ready for his junior year at Ben Davis High School, Carnell is staying patient with the recruiting process as he continues to research his opportunities.

“I’m just taking it slow right now and looking at all of my options,” Carnell said. “I have 11 offers right now and have not narrowed my list.”

A three-star prospect, Carnell currently holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Notre Dame, Indiana, Purdue, Nebraska, Missouri, Louisville, Washington State, Boston College, Cincinnati, and Central Michigan.
