Illinois cornerback Camron Harrell impressed the Iowa coaching staff at camp so much they invited him back to Iowa City attend their Hawkeye Tailgater this weekend. Once he was there, the coaches went ahead and made it official and offered a scholarship to the 5-foot-10, 181-pound Harrell. We caught up with him afterwards to get his reaction.

Q: What all did you get to see and do at the Tailgater this weekend? What were the highlights for you?

HARRELL: We really got to see everything. We took tours of the dorms, athletics facilities, and the campus as a whole. The highlight for me was just being able to hang out with all the recruits, players, and staff.

Q: What did you hear from the coaching staff as far as their interest?

HARRELL: They were interested enough to offer me this weekend so that's a great feeling.

Q: Can you take me through the offer? Who made it and what did they say?

HARRELL: Coach Kirk Ferentz took my mother and I into his office and we continued to have a casual conversation. Then, he proceeded to tell me that he believes I will be a great addition to the Hawkeye family and said he wants to offer me a scholarship to play there.

Q: That’s your first offer right? What was the feeling like>

HARRELL: That is my first offer. It was such a relief because I was wondering for a while if I would be a scholarship guy for them and hearing that from Coach Ferentz was amazing.

Q: Was there any thought to committing or you want to make sure to take your time with things?

HARRELL: I love Iowa, but I'm going to take some time and think about my decision before I make it.

Q: Overall, how do you feel about Iowa after leaving there today?

HARRELL: I love Iowa. Great people, town, football, just overall perfect.

Q: What’s next for you recruiting wise? Are there more camps or visits on the schedule?

HARRELL: I'm not completely sure yet. I might try to find some more camps.

As a junior, Harrell starred on both sides of the ball at Bradley-Bourbonnais High School, finishing the season with 931 yards receiving and 22 touchdowns in all. In his team’s post-season run to the Class 7A state semifinals, he scored 11 times in four games, including a six touchdown performance in the opening round.

Last month at the Illinois State Track Meet, Harrell finished 4th in the 100 meter dash (10.68) and 10th in the long jump (22-1.25).
