Hawkeye Report Pick Six
We are headed into week five of the college football season. Yep, five weeks of the season will be in the books after Saturday’s action concludes. Cherish these Saturday’s folks because they go by quickly.
Last weekend we had two of our experts with 6-0 records. Congrats to Lyle Hammes and John Kerth, who schooled the rest of us last weekend. Blair Sanderson continues to lap the field with another strong week, going 5-1 and running his overall record to 21-3. Yep, folks, he has been on fire. Three games back are Matt Randazzo, Lyle Hammes and the legendary RDietz.
This week we have six great games on tap in our first weekend of a full slate of Big Ten games.
Here are the Pick Six games this week:
USC at Washington State Maryland at Minnesota Georgia at Tennessee Clemson at Virginia Tech Northwestern at Wisconsin
Iowa at Michigan State
Here are the picks from our experts:
---
TORBEE (5-1 last week and 13-11 overall)
USC over WSU.
Minnesota takes care of Maryland.
Georgia over Tennessee
Clemson over V Tech
Badgers over Wildcats
My heart says to take Iowa because they know they need to win a bunch of Big 10 games to set up a rematch with Penn State. But my head says an emotional and physical letdown is likely after that game, especially on the road. Michigan State 28, Iowa 24. Pick to click is Josh Jackson.
---
TOM KAKERT (3-3 last week and 16-8 overall)
USC gets past the pirate
Give me the boat rowers over the turtles
UGA over the Vols
Clemson is headed back to the national title game and they beat Tech
Cats have had the Badgers number the past few years. Not this year, On Wisconsin.
I just don’t see a letdown this week for Iowa. Hawkeyes win 24-21 and give me Wadley for over 100 on the ground and a pair of scores.
---
LYLE HAMMES (6-0 last week and 18-6 overall)
USC over Washington State
Minnesota over Maryland (although I think the Gophers are due for a fall)
Georgia over Tennessee
Clemson over Virginia Tech
Wisconsin over Northwestern
I think Michigan State is better than they've shown so far, as turnovers have been their biggest problem. I also worry about Iowa having a Penn State hangover. Regardless, you can count on this being a typical Iowa-Michigan State slobberknocker: Michigan State 27 - Iowa 24. Matt VandeBerg gets back in the scoring column and leads the team in receiving Saturday.
---
BLAIR SANDERSON (5-1 last week and 21-3 overall)
USC
Minnesota
Georgia
Clemson
Wisconsin
Iowa 24, MSU 21. PTC Akrum Wadley.
---
MIKE ZIERATH (2-4 last week and 15-9 overall)
Give me the Crazy Pirate and those Cougs
Minnesota has been surprisingly efficient on both Offense and Defense, I'll take the Gophers
Go Dawgs!
Is Clemson vulnerable? Not this week. I'll take the Tigers.
Badgers prevail.
I had Iowa 7-5 this year. I also had them 4-2 at the bye week. I'm gonna stick with that and Take Sparty.
---
RDIETZ (5-1 last week and 18-6 overall)
WSU
Maryland
Georgia
Clemson
Wisconsin
Iowa 30 MSU 27, Stanley with three TD passes.
---
JOHN KERTH (6-0 last week and 15-3 overall)
USC over Washington State
Minnesota over Maryland
Georgie over Tennessee
Clemson over Virginia Tech
Wisconsin over Northwestern
The question after a game like last week is will there be a hangover from such a tough loss or will the team rebound to play well? I think it’s the latter, as Iowa wins a close one on the road over Michigan State, 24-20. Akrum Wadley leads the way with 180 all-purpose yards and two TDs.
