After visiting Iowa City for the season opener this past weekend, Nebraska fullback Connor Ruth has decided that is where he wants to play college football. Today, the 6-foot-0, 215-pound Ruth announced that he has accepted a walk-on opportunity with the Iowa Hawkeyes and will be joining the team after graduating from Seward High School in 2018.

"I have just always been very attracted to the honesty of the coaches at Iowa," said Ruth. "They've always been very caring and upfront with me. I'm also a big fan of the culture of the program."

"Last Saturday, I was finally able to introduce my mom to the coaches and they were very nice and that's when I knew it was time to decide."

In Iowa City Saturday, the Ruth family got the full college experience from the academic side of things to the game day atmosphere at Kinnick Stadium.

"I thought it was really valuable to have more face to face contact with some of the coaches," Ruth said. "For breakfast, they sat us down with some students at the university and they aided in breaking down the academic side of things, which was really helpful to my parents and me."

"Once on the field, I was just really impressed by the fans, the brotherhood, and the atmosphere," he continued. "Everything was impressive to me. It made me feel like it was a culture that I could work towards my potential in."

Ruth has grown up with the fullback position in his blood. His father, Royce, played fullback at Nebraska-Kearney and his uncles are Joel and Jeff Makovicka of Huskers' walk-on fame. Now, Ruth will follow a similar path at Iowa, where he looks forward to climbing up the depth chart through hard work in the coming years.

"As far as my role, I was recruited to the fullback position," said Ruth. "I'm sure that I will redshirt and then from there, I will have to work up the ladder from special teams and eventually into the backfield."
