Hawkeyes offer 2018 in-state OL

The Iowa Hawkeyes extended a new scholarship offer in-state today to Class of 2018 offensive lineman Trevor Downing from Creston. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Downing received the news from Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz this evening.

"I called Coach Ferentz and he offered over the phone," said Downing. "He said Coach Morgan will visit with me at school next week."

Downing, who visited Iowa earlier this season when the Hawkeyes hosted Iowa State, was grateful for the opportunity from Ferentz and his staff.

"I am very humbled and yet very thankful," Downing said. "Iowa has an excellent program built on great coaches, players, and fans."

With scholarship offers now in hand from both in-state FBS programs, the Hawkeyes and Cyclones will be battling for Downing's services.

"Both schools are definitely at the top of my list," said Downing. "I'm not sure which one is higher."

Currently, other schools showing interest include Oklahoma, Penn State, and Indiana.
