After attending Iowa’s camp in early June, Minnesota defensive lineman Samuel Moore received big news this past weekend. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder, who plays 9-man football for Verndale, picked up a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes.

“Iowa offered me a scholarship on Saturday,” said Moore. “I also received a full ride offer from NDSU for football as well.”

Moore, who is being recruited by Coach Tim Polasek, plays inside and outside on both sides of the ball in high school, but has the frame to grow into a defensive tackle in college.

“They are talking defensive line,” Moore said. “I believe they want me at defensive tackle.”

As a junior, Moore earned all-area and most valuable lineman honors in his district after leading Verndale to an 11-1 record. On defense, he finished with 54 tackles, 7 TFL, and 3.5 sacks.

This past spring in track, Moore won Class 1A state championships in both the shot put (59-11.75) and discus (180-6).
