The Iowa Hawkeyes have offered a new quarterback in the Class of 2017. Texas native Peyton Mansell had Iowa offensive coordinator Greg Davis down to watch him throw at Belton High School earlier this month and today the Hawkeyes followed up with a scholarship offer.

"Coach Davis saw my film and told my head coach that he was going to come down and see me throw in person," said the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Mansell. "He came and watched and liked what he saw."

"I feel blessed that I received an offer from such a prestigious school and high character program," Mansell continued.

Overall, it is Mansell's 15th offer as Iowa joins Rice, San Diego State, Florida Atlantic, New Mexico State, North Texas, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Coastal Carolina, North Dakota State, Abilene Christian, and Houston Baptist on his list.

With the Hawkeyes being his first Power Five offer, it is an opportunity that intrigues the Class of 2017 prospect and one he is interested in learning more about.

"They are definitely near the top," he continued. "Me and my parents are looking at dates to head up this summer."

If all goes according to plan, Mansell would like to have his college decision made this summer before his senior season, but is not going to hurry things if he is not ready.

"I'm not rushing into a decision," said Mansell. "I hope to have committed somewhere before the season, but this is a 40-year decision not a 4-year decision."

As a junior, Mansell completed 140 of 241 pass attempts (58.1%) for 1,712 yards and 20 touchdowns with only three interceptions. A dual-threat quarterback, he finished with 113 carries for 789 yards rushing and 10 scores on the ground as well.
