Hawkeyes add Detroit corner Desmond King

Detroit cornerback Desmond King has switched his commitment to the Iowa Hawkeyes. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound King had previously given a verbal pledge to Ball State, but received a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes on his official visit to Iowa City this weekend and quickly accepted.

"What made my decision to commit to Iowa was it just felt like home," said King. "It wasn't what everyone was trying to tell me, just like cornfields and everything. It's a really nice city. Once I got there, it was really comfortable and felt like home."

During the visit, King was able to spend time with the Iowa coaches, who project him at cornerback in college, along with several of current players for the Hawkeyes, including Detroit natives Ruben Lile and Laron Taylor.

"I really got along with all of the players," King said. "They have a couple Detroit kids there, so if I need anything I know they are there for me."

As a senior, King put up big numbers on both sides of the ball, finishing with 191 carries for 2,368 yards rushing and 32 touchdowns on offense plus 41 tackles and seven interceptions on defense. He finished his high school career with 29 interceptions, which is a state record in Michigan. Now, the three-star prospect is taking that playmaking ability to the Big Ten where he looks forward to competing against some of the best players in the country.

"It feels great," said King. "I know I've got to get bigger, stronger, and faster because there's a lot of talent that I'm going to be competing against, but I can't wait."
