Hawks add more walk-ons

Along with signing 24 prospects on Wednesday, the Hawkeyes also continue to bolster the depth in this year's recruiting class with several walk-on additions. This week, we learned about a few more players that plan to walk on at Iowa this coming season.

According to the Sioux City Journal, Cole Croston of Sergeant Bluff-Luton and Jeremy Nelson of Bishop Heelan both plan to walk on at Iowa this year. Those two join Michael Malloy of Heelan and Alex Imming of East, who both made their decisions earlier, to give the Hawkeyes four walk-ons from the Sioux City area this year.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Croston is following in his father's footsteps as Dave Croston was a team captain at Iowa and the Big Ten's offensive lineman of the year in 1986. His son is still filling out, but is a good all-around athlete and could be a player to watch a couple years down the road. Currently, Croston is averaging 15.9 points and 10.8 rebound per game on the basketball court and had some lower level college interest in hoops as well. Nelson is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker who earned all-state honors after racking up 123 tackles and 29 TFL for Heelan this past season.

Also, Cedar Rapids Washington safety David Tann told us this week that he will be walking on at Iowa as well. As a senior, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound Tann had 101 tackles and three interceptions, including one that he returned for a touchdown. One other prospect from the MVC that will likely end up walking on is Steve Ferentz from City High. Steve is the youngest of Kirk and Mary Ferentz's five children and played tight end at 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds as a senior. On Wednesday, Kirk Ferentz said his son is still looking over his options and has not made a final college decision yet.

Will Kincart - 6-foot-3, 235-pound OL/DL/LS from Bloomfield, IA (Davis County)

Alex Imming - 6-foot-3, 205-pound WR from Sioux City, IA (East)

Michael Malloy - 6-foot-0, 180-pound RB/WR from Sioux City, IA (Heelan)

Andre Dawson - 6-foot-1, 220-pound RB from Cedar Rapids, IA (Iowa Western Community College)
