Hawks keeping an eye on Hitchens

Ohio native Anthony Hitchens may be best known as a running back at the high school level, rushing for over 4,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in his career, but at least one school is looking at him to possibly play defense in college. That is the Iowa Hawkeyes, who are staying in close contact with the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Hitchens this fall.

"Iowa is showing a lot of interest right now," said Hitchens. "They're not really looking for any more running backs though, so it's more on the defensive side at strong safety maybe."

Currently, Hitchens holds scholarship offers from Kansas, Indiana, and Eastern Michigan. While the Hawkeyes have not yet offered, they did invite the two-star prospect to campus for an unofficial visit a couple of weeks back when they hosted Indiana.

"I went out there for a game and I'm hoping to go back for an official visit," Hitchens said. "They said maybe in December or January."

Hitchens has also visited Kansas this season and says the Hawkeyes and Jayhawks are currently his top two schools. Kansas is recruiting him at running back, but Iowa may have the edge right now if they decide to offer, according to the Ohio native.

"I really like the facilities at Iowa and how pretty much it's a football school," said Hitchens. "Everyone is really focused on their football team and I like the success they are having this year."

With Hitchens leading the way on both sides of the ball, Lorain Clearview finished the season 8-2 this year just narrowly missing the playoffs. Up next is basketball and then track for the 2010 prospect, who also hopes to fit in a few official visits this winter before making his college decision.

"I'm just looking for the best fit for me," Hitchens said.
