Hawks land 2015 commit

Despite a 30-27 loss to Northern Illinois in the season opener on Saturday, the Iowa coaching staff did receive a bit of good news before the end of the day. The Hawkeyes landed their first commitment in the Class of 2015 as in-state lineman Jacob Newborg from West Lyon High School gave Iowa his verbal pledge following his visit to Iowa City.

Just made one of the biggest decisions of my life. I've decided to be a Hawkeye! Dream come true! #HawkeyeNation- Jake Newborg (@JacobNewborg58) September 1, 2013

The 6-foot-2, 271-pound Newborg is a two-way lineman at West Lyon and could play on either side of the ball in college. He earned a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes shortly after attending their camp over the summer and is one of only three in-state prospects the Iowa coaching staff has offered so far in the Class of 2015 with other two being twins Levi Paulsen and Landan Paulsen from Woodbury Central. Incidentally, both West Lyon and Woodbury Central are in the same district in Class A and will actually face one another on October 18.

HawkeyeReport.com will have more on Newborg's decision shortly.
