Hawks land big 2017 commit

After moving to the state of Iowa this fall and attending three Hawkeye games during the season, Class of 2017 lineman Juan Harris has found a place to call home. Today, the 6-foot-3, 350-pound Harris verbally committed to the Hawkeyes shortly after picking up a scholarship offer from the Iowa coaching staff.

A year ago, Harris attended high school in Illinois at Notre Dame College Prep where he became the first freshman to start at the varsity level in nearly thirty years. From there, he moved to Janesville, Wisconsin, where he started his sophomore year at Parker High School, but ended up transferring to North Fayette Valley in West Union, Iowa in mid-September.
After sitting out two months due to the transfer, Harris made his debut in the Class 2A state semifinals, playing offensive tackle and helping his team pick up a 42-13 win. In the state championship game the following week, he played on both sides of the ball and led North Fayette Valley to a 14-10 victory over Sioux Center.
Harris, who could play offensive or defensive line in college, also had early scholarship offers from Wisconsin, Utah, and Virginia.
He is the first verbal commitment for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Class of 2017.
