Hawks offer versatile Boettger

Playing for one of the best teams in the state of Iowa, Cedar Falls native Ike Boettger was not a prospect that was hard to find. However, it was a little tough to project the 6-foot-5, 215-pound Boettger to the college level because he plays quarterback in high school and will most likely line up elsewhere down the road.

"He's one of those guys that could do a lot of things," said Cedar Falls co-head coach Pat Mitchell. "He's 6-5, 215, and runs about a 4.6 forty. He could play quarterback, free safety, wide receiver, tight end, or just about anywhere. He's a very talented player."

This past week, the Iowa Hawkeyes had a chance to evaluate Boettger at their camp and obviously liked what they saw. It was not long before the coaching staff followed up with a scholarship offer at tight end, which should be a good fit according to Mitchell.

"He has really soft hands and has the type of frame that could easily put on a lot of weight, so I think he has huge upside," Mitchell said. "He's a very good athlete and very coachable."

Off the field, Boettger is just as impressive, according to Mitchell, who plans on playing the Class of 2013 prospect on both sides of the ball his senior year.

"He's an excellent leader for us and helped us make the state semifinals last year," said Mitchell. "He's also a starting forward on our basketball team and pretty good in that sport as well."

"Off the field, he's a kid with very high character. He's a very good student and a good citizen, just an all-around impressive kid."
