Class of 2018 kicker Caleb Griffin has stayed in close contact with the Iowa coaching staff ever since receiving a preferred walk-on opportunity in June. This past weekend, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Danville, IL native was back in Iowa City for a game day visit with the Hawkeyes.

“The Iowa visit was amazing,” said Griffin. “I really enjoyed seeing the staff again and being there for a game.”

“Coach Woods and Coach Barnes are in constant contact with me and made sure yesterday that I realized how much they wanted me,” Griffin continued. “They had Marshall Koehn come back and hangout with me while we toured the facilities and that was really cool.”

Iowa’s starting kicker, Miguel Recinos, is a junior this year, and the Hawkeyes are looking to bring in more competition for when he graduates.

“They want me to compete with Miguel (Recinos) my freshman year and then take over after he leaves,” said Griffin.

As a senior at Danville, Griffin made 9/11 field goal attempts with his only two misses coming from beyond 50 yards. Currently, he holds one scholarship offer, which is from Bowling Green, and is still considering walk-on opportunities at Iowa, Illinois, Syracuse, Michigan, and Virginia Tech, among others.

“Hopefully before the end of January I can decide,” Griffin said.
