In-state kicker walking on

All-state kicker Cole Hahn from West Des Moines Valley has decided on a college. After talking things over with Valley head coach Gary Swenson this past week, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound Hahn has decided to walk on at Iowa and join the Hawkeyes this year.

“I chose Iowa for a multitude of reasons,” said Hahn. “When discussing things with Coach Swenson, he told me to take football out of the equation and ask would Iowa be somewhere academically that I deemed fit?”

“I plan to study pre-med, and with Iowa having a renowned medical program, I decided it was in my best academic interest to go to the University of Iowa.”

“Football wise, Coach Ferentz has built a great program at Iowa and along with his ability to send kickers to the NFL such as Nate Kaeding and Marshall Koehn, I see great opportunity at Iowa,” Hahn continued.

Iowa returns all of their kickers from this past season, including starter Keith Duncan, but Hahn looks forward to the competition and the opportunity to prove himself in college.

“I understand that there are kickers already at Iowa, but I am going to show up and compete and display my abilities,” said Hahn. “In the end, I'm blessed to be given the opportunity to join the Iowa football family.”

Hahn chose the Hawkeyes over an offer from Army and interest from Iowa State, UNI, Pittsburgh, Bowling Green, and Washington State, among others.

As a senior, Hahn made 8/14 field goals with a long of 52 yards and connected on 55/56 PAT’s.
