Bondurant-Farrar linebacker John Carlson visited Iowa City again this weekend.

Bondurant-Farrar linebacker John Carlson left his official visit in Iowa City getting closer to a final decision. We caught up with the 6-foot-4, 190-pound Carlson afterwards to get the very latest.

Q: Did you visit Iowa this weekend for an official visit?

CARLSON: Yep. I was there all Saturday, but not Friday night like some of the guys because I had a basketball game.

Q: How do you feel the trip went?

CARLSON: Pretty good. I was impressed.

Q: What was your schedule during the course of the weekend?

CARLSON: Saturday morning, we had breakfast with academic advisors. After that, we went to the auditorium in the football facility to get an admissions presentation. Then they had some of their players in to answer any questions that parents or recruits had about their lives. We then departed from the football facility to watch the game at Carver. After lunch, we left Carver and went to the locker room in the stadium. Then lastly, we watched film with our position coaches. Before departing, (we) had a meeting with Coach Ferentz.

Q: What was your favorite part of the trip?

CARLSON: Touring the facilities is always pretty cool there, but my favorite part was watching film with position coaches and starting get a feel for their coaching style.Q: What did you learn during that meeting?

CARLSON: I met with Coach Wallace and talked linebackers. I learned the basic idea and setup of the defense, along with some of the basic techniques and disciplines that have to be followed.

Q: How were the coaches on the trip?

CARLSON: Very laid back and conversational.

Q: What did they say about you as a recruit?

CARLSON: They like my length and athleticism. They think once I get into their strength program, a guy like me could start to play at a very high level.

Q: Did they offer you a preferred walk on spot?

CARLSON: Yes.

Q: How do you feel about walking-on at Iowa?

CARLSON: It is currently the option I'm leaning most towards.

Q: What other schools are in the picture?

CARLSON: I've heard stuff from UNI and SDSU, but not a lot to lead me to believe they intend on offering me anything.

Q: When do you want to decide?

CARLSON: Within the next three weeks. They said there was no rush or timeline to decide.

Q: Do you have any other trips planned?

CARLSON: As of now, no.

Q: Do you have a favorite school right now?

CARLSON: It's Iowa. I've been a fan since I could crawl.

Q: What stands out about Iowa?

CARLSON: Tradition, being close to home, and the opportunity to play Big Ten football.

Q: How much does Iowa being a favorite since you were younger factor in to your final decision?

CARLSON: Quite a bit for sure.

Q: What is your process to decide?

CARLSON: I'm just taking a little bit to spend time with my family and make sure I'm all in on my decision.

Q: Will it be hard for any school to beat Iowa?

CARLSON: I'm not sure yet. I'd have to get another opportunity from a different school and think about it then.

Q: What are your workout plans going forward now?

CARLSON: Once I commit, I'll probably get a workout plan from the school I choose.

As a senior, Carlson produced on both sides of the ball with 39 catches for 915 yards and 10 touchdowns on offense to go along with 35 tackles and 4 TFL on defense.
