Iowa first to offer 2019 DE

Class of 2019 defensive end Spencer Bono picked up his first scholarship offer Tuesday night, which came from the Iowa Hawkeyes. For the 6-foot-4, 217-pound Cincinnati native, it was an exciting moment when he received the news from Iowa recruiting coordinator Kelvin Bell.

“My coach, Doug Ramsey, called me into his office and gave me Coach Kelvin Bell's number,” said Bono. “So I called him and he told me that he is giving me an offer to play at the University of Iowa.”

“Coach Bell said that he thinks that I'm a great player with a good motor,” Bono continued. “He said that he knows that I am good enough to play at the next level. “

With interest throughout the Midwest, it was probably only a matter of time before someone offered, but to have it come from a Big Ten school meant a lot to the Class of 2019 prospect.

“I was extremely excited to receive my first offer from Iowa,” Bono said. “I couldn't be more happy to receive a Big Ten offer right off the bat. The Big Ten has been my favorite conference since I was little.”

Other schools showing interest include Cincinnati, Indiana, Boston College, Michigan State, and West Virginia.

As a sophomore, Bono finished the season with 45 tackles, 10 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles for Cincinnati Elder High School.
