You could say Lisa Bluder and her staff have had decent recruiting success in Wisconsin over the last few years, as Samantha Logic (Racine), Megan Gustafson (Port Wing) and McKenna Warnock (Madison) all hail from the Badger State. Now the Hawkeye coaching staff is back on the recruiting trail looking for the next name to join the growing list of successful Iowa players from Wisconsin.

Lisa Bluder was spotted watching 6’0 G Allie Ziebell out of Neenhah, WI compete with Wisconsin Flight Elite 17u at the NIKE Nationals in Chicago this week, while the coaching staff also watched 5’9 G Taylor Stremlow out of Verona, WI play with the Wisconsin Flight Elite 16u squad. Ziebell is rated as the #9 player for the class of 2024 by ESPN with notable offers from Iowa, Minnesota, Marquette, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Wisconsin,

Stremlow is rated the #4 player in Wisconsin for the class of 2024 by Prep Girls Hoops, with impressive ball handling skills, as well as ability to attack the basket, shoot from outside and dish to her teammates for baskets.

Taylor has an offer from Iowa, as well as other offers from Iowa State, Illinois, Wisconsin, Marquette, Providence, Montana State, Green Bay and St Thomas. As a freshman at Verona High School, Stremlow averaged 11.6 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists per game for a Wildcats team that made it to the WIAA DI State Tournament. She was out for the year after one game last season with a fractured bone in her foot.

We caught up with Taylor Stremlow after she wrapped up play at the NIKE Nationals Tournament to discuss her play on the court, as well as her recruitment off the court.

Q: What’s it like playing in a tournament like this where every game has players getting recruited to D1 schools and D1 coaches are watching each game?

STREMLOW: It’s crazy! The level of competition in the EYBL (Nike Elite Youth Basketball League) and specifically at this tournament is awesome. Along with that, playing in front of so many coaches, I think it really motivates everyone to play at their best.

Q: Lots of talented players and future college players compete in a tournament like this, what can you learn about yourself as a player of the span of a couple days here?

STREMLOW: Something that I’ve really been able to take away from this high-level tournament is what I need to work on individually to get better for upcoming tournaments and next year. The pressure and competition really brought out parts of my game that I know I need to improve.

Q: What does the rest of your summer look like from a tournament standpoint?

STREMLOW: We have two upcoming tournaments in Indianapolis and Des Moines.

Q: Right now, if you take a step back and look at your game, what would you say are your strengths and what are some areas that you are looking to improve on?

STREMLOW: Looking at my game, I would definitely like to work/improve on shooting 3’s and pull up’s. I have been training those shots a lot since they add much more versatility to how I play, which I think is very important. I also consider myself a strong passer and ball handler, but there is still always room for improvement, and I will continue to work on all different areas of my game.

Q: What is your relationship like with Coach Lisa Bluder and the rest of the coaching staff? Have you visited Iowa City?

STREMLOW: I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the Iowa coaching staff and had the opportunity to go on an unofficial visit last fall…I had a great time, along with that, I got to experience a game vs Ohio State, which was awesome to see the support from so many fans and the team culture.”

Q: As you go through the recruiting process, what are some things that you are looking for in a school that will make them standout compared to others?

STREMLOW: Along with other things, the team culture and coaching staff are very important to me.

Q: Are you hearing from any teams that are not on your current offer list? Any visits scheduled for this fall?

STREMLOW: I’ve been in contact with a number of different coaches and am looking forward to a busy fall!

It will be interesting to follow Stremlow over the next couple of months. A good end to her summer with Wisconsin Flight Elite, as well as a good high school season could certainly lead to an increase in offers and overall interest.

Here are a couple of highlights from her game against All Iowa Attack…
