Iowa releases hoops schedule

Peter Jok and the Hawkeyes learned their full schedule on Thursday.

Last season the Iowa Basketball team had zero home games on a Saturday during the Big Ten season. This year that will not be the case.

The Big Ten released their conference basketball schedule on Thursday afternoon and it features a pair of Saturday home games during the Big Ten season for the Hawkeyes and both contests will take place when students will be back on campus.

Iowa’s Big Ten schedule will get underway on the road in late December with a trip to face what should be a very good Purdue team. Last year, the Hawkeyes rallied for a significant win in early January when they traveled to play the Boilermakers.

The Hawkeyes will then kickoff the new year on January 1st when they host Michigan. For the third straight year, Iowa will play Nebraska on January 5th. The previous two years, those games were played in Iowa City. This time the game will take place in Lincoln.

This season the Hawkeyes will have two back to back home games when they host Rutgers on January 8th and then Purdue travels to Iowa City on January 12th. Then later in the year they host Illinois (Feb. 18th) and Indiana (Feb. 21). They also have a pair of back to back road games this season. Iowa will travel to Minnesota on February 8th and then head to Michigan State on February 11th. The second back to back road games will take place on February 25th at Maryland and then March 2nd against Wisconsin.

Iowa will once again have a home game on January 19th, which is the anniversary of the tragic passing of Chris Street in 1991 when he was a Hawkeye player. Iowa will host Maryland on that day.

Earlier this week, the Big Ten Network announced the games they will be broadcasting in the non-conference portion of the schedule. Iowa will have three games on the BTN, with more added later once the conference television schedule is set.

This year for the first time, the Big Ten Tournament will be held in Washington, D.C. from March 8th thru 12th . This season marks 20 years since the Big Ten began a conference tournament and it will be the first time it has been held outside of Chicago or Indianapolis.
