The Iowa Hawkeyes will be adding not one, but two Kallenbergers this year. Today, junior college defensive end Jack Kallenberger accepted Iowa’s preferred walk-on opportunity and will be joining the Hawkeyes. There, he will team up with younger brother, Mark Kallenberger, a high school senior at Bettendorf this year.

“I committed to Iowa today,” said Jack Kallenberger, a 6-foot-5, 250-pound defensive end from Iowa Central Community College.

As a sophomore at Iowa Central, Kallenberger finished with 52 tackles and 6 sacks this past season, which drew interest from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, West Virginia, and several FCS schools, but once a spot opened up with the Hawkeyes it was an easy decision.

“Growing up only 45 minutes from Iowa City and having connections with Pat Angerer, Julian Vandervelde, and Wil Rathjen, it was tough to consider anywhere else,” Kallenberger said. “I have a lot of respect for the staff and I think they do things the right way. I also am really excited to get the opportunity to work with both Coach Morgan and Coach Doyle.”

Kallenberger will graduate from Iowa Central in May and join the Hawkeyes this summer with two years of eligibility remaining and a redshirt year available if they decide to use it.
