Maxwell names Iowa his favorite

Florida cornerback Zamari Maxwell made his official visit to Iowa this weekend.

Florida cornerback Zamari Maxwell is on his way back home this morning after an official visit to Iowa City over the weekend. For the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Maxwell, it was his first visit to the Hawkeye State, and one that left him impressed with what the University of Iowa has to offer.

“It blew me away,” said Maxwell. “The coaches and everyone treat you like you’re family. In the locker room with the players, it was like I’m already fitting in.”

“It was a really good experience,” he continued. “I love it here.”

Maxwell’s host for the weekend was freshman wide receiver Devonte Young. In addition to meeting several of the current players, the three-star prospect also sat down with the Iowa coaches, who went over their depth chart at cornerback.

“They said they have Desmond King and Greg Mabin graduating, so they need corners this year,” Maxwell said. “They need someone to come in ready to play and ready to compete for a spot.”

Iowa may have already been the favorite for Maxwell coming into the weekend, but the Largo native said there is no question that the Hawkeyes lead now after the official visit.

“It feels like home,” said Maxwell. “It is family oriented with good coaches and good players and everyone is very welcoming.”

Still, there was no commitment this weekend, not yet at least. First, Maxwell says he would like to take a couple more visits, maybe to Central Florida and Kentucky this season, before making his college choice.

“I think I’m going to visit one or two more schools and then after that, I’m going to make a decision,” Maxwell said.
