Meier on board

Small school standout Nate Meier admits that the recruiting process was starting to stress him out this month. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Meier had a couple of different options on the table, but had not quite found what he was looking for yet. That was until this past week when the Iowa Hawkeyes came through with a scholarship offer.

"I'm going to Iowa," said Meier. "Their interest has been really building up the last couple weeks and once they offered, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do, but I wanted to visit first to make sure it was a good fit and I really think it is. I like the facilities, the players, the coaching staff, the way the play, and everything."

Meier made his official visit to Iowa City this past weekend where his hosts were James Morris and Matt Meyers. Along with spending time with the current players, he also had a chance to sit down with the coaches, who could see him playing a couple of different positions in college.

"I'm being recruited as a running back, but they said with my size and my speed, I could fit in at a couple places," Meier said. "I could play running back, fullback, linebacker, or rush end. I like running back, but I want to get on the field as fast I can, so wherever I can do that is where I want to play."

As a senior at Fremont-Mills High School, Meier put up huge numbers with 2,494 yards rushing and 57 touchdowns on offense to go along with 112 tackles, 34 TFL, and 11 sacks on defense. He led his team to an undefeated state championship season and was named the eight-man football player of the year.

When it came to the recruiting process, Meier picked up an early scholarship offer from South Dakota and added one from UNI this month as well. After accepting the new opportunity at Iowa, the two-star prospect said he was relieved to have the recruiting process behind him.

"I was stressing out pretty bad these last few weeks, so it's a big relief," said Meier. "I feel like all of my hard work really paid off."

Meier is the twentieth commitment for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Class of 2012.
