The Hawkeyes have been showing interest in Wisconsin native Jack Plumb for some time now and decided to take the next step on Tuesday. That is when the Iowa coaching staff officially extended a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-8, 240-pound Plumb, who attends Bay Port High School in Green Bay.

“I called Coach Brian Ferentz and we talked for a little bit and then he said that they were going to offer,” said Plumb. “I was super excited and had a huge smile on my face and my football coach, Coach Westy, said congrats, and was super excited for me.”

Iowa is the sixth school offer Plumb for football as the Hawkeyes join New Mexico, Northern Illinois, South Dakota, Illinois State, and Western Illinois on his list. The Class of 2018 prospect, who also has a basketball offer from Wisconsin-Green Bay, was excited to add his first Big Ten opportunity.

“It's unreal,” Plumb said. “I feel great right now and I'm going to be pumped for the rest of the day.”

A tight end in high school, Plumb caught five touchdown passes for Bay Port last season, but with a big frame and room to grow, his future is likely at offensive tackle, which is where Iowa is recruiting him.

“Coach Ferentz said that I move really well for my size,” said Plumb. “I can bend well, have good feet, and he thinks I have what it takes to play offensive line in the Big Ten.”

In March, Plumb visited Iowa City for a Hawkeye junior day and plans to return for Iowa’s camp in June. He is also receiving interest from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Purdue, Arizona State, and Wyoming, and will be scheduling more camp stops in the near future.

“I'm going to sit down with Coach Westy and we will decide where to go in the next week or so,” Plumb said.
