As perhaps the only wide receiver in Iowa's incoming recruiting class, Maryland native Devonte Young hopes to hit the ground running and earn some playing time in 2015. We caught up with the 6-foot-0, 195-pound Young, who will wear #80 for the Hawkeyes, to talk about his upcoming freshman year and much more.

Q: When do you make the move to Iowa City this summer?

YOUNG: June 7.

Q: What are you looking forward to in starting workouts with the team?

YOUNG: A competitive atmosphere and the amount of work each individual puts in to help the team.

Q: What are your goals for your freshman year? Are you hoping to play or expecting to redshirt?

YOUNG: I plan on getting some playing time because I’m going to work extremely hard to prove I can.

Q: What will it mean to you to walk out of the tunnel at Kinnick Stadium for the first time?

YOUNG: It will extremely mean a lot to me because it will make so many people, including myself, proud of all the hard work leading up to that moment.

Q: When you look back at everything, what was it about Iowa that made it the right place for you?

YOUNG: They treat everyone like family and they think about your long term goal. It’s education first before your short term goal of football and the team treats you like family right when you walk through the doors. That’s what made it the right place for me.

As a senior, Young finished the season with 40 catches for 735 yards and 5 touchdowns for North Point this past year.
