Coming in at 6-foot-2 and 217 pounds, Djimon Colbert is a big safety that could end up at linebacker down the road. Whatever the case, the Kansas City native is excited to begin his college career at Iowa next month. We caught up with Colbert to talk about his upcoming freshman year and much more.

Q: When do you make the move to Iowa City this summer?

COLBERT: I move in June 10th.

Q: What are you looking forward to in starting workouts with the team?

COLBERT: I'm excited to begin bonding with my brothers and start learning the mental side of the game.

Q: What are your goals for your freshman year? Are you hoping to play or expecting to redshirt?

COLBERT: I want to play this year. That's my goal going into fall camp.

Q: What have you heard from the coaches since signing day?

COLBERT: Just to come in prepared and conditioning is going to be a big thing early on.

Q: What will it mean to you to walk out of the tunnel at Kinnick Stadium for the first time?

COLBERT: It’s going to mean the world to me to see my dreams finally coming true.

Q: When you look back at everything, what was it about Iowa that made it the right place for you?

COLBERT: Iowa was the first school to take a chance on me and it just feels like home.

Q: What number will you be wearing at Iowa and can we get a quick height and weight update?

COLBERT: I’m going to wear #32 and I’m 6-2, 217 right now.

Q: Is the plan still to start out at strong safety or could it be linebacker down the road?

COLBERT: Coach Wallace told me safety last week.

A three-star prospect, Colbert committed to Iowa on March 6, 2016, choosing the Hawkeyes over scholarship offers from Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa State.

As a senior, Colbert finished the season with 45 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and three interceptions, leading Bishop Miege to a third straight state championship.
