Signing Day QA: Brennan Cougill

Brennan Cougill has had a year to let his decision to commit to the University of Iowa set in and with each passing day, it gets more and more comfortable and he gets more excited about the opportunity. While there will be a slight delay in his signing to share the special day with his entire family, the 6-foot-9 power forward/center from Sioux City is excited that the day is finally arriving where he can officially say he is a Hawkeye.
Q: What have you been working on to prepare for the season?

COUGILL: I have been working on my perimeter game and getting faster and more explosive.
Q: You are doing something like the Accelerate Program to train. How much has that helped you?
COUGILL: It has helped a lot. I have improved my 40, my 20, and my lateral quickness quite a bit.
Q: When do you start practice for this season?
COUGILL: Our first practice is November 15th and I think our first game is December 5th.
Q: You have worked hard this fall. How excited are you to get the season started?
COUGILL: I'm excited. It is going to be a fun season. I will be excited to get some of our football players back on the team and see how quickly we can come together for what will hopefully be a special season.
Q: What are your plans for Signing Day?
COUGILL: I am going to actually sign on the 18th instead of the 12th because Heelan has a lot of stuff at state and my mom and brother would not be able to be there. So, I will sign on the 18th, but I am not sure what my mom has planned for it yet, but it is supposed to be big.
Q: How excited are you for this moment?
COUGILL: I am really excited. It is a dream come true to be able to say that I am an Iowa Hawkeye and to play for them.
Q: You have had over a year to get comfortable with your decision. Has that made it easier for you to know where you were going for that period of time?
COUGILL: It has made life easier. I have been able to prepare for where I am headed and it has helped me relax because I didn't have to worry about recruiting and I could focus on basketball.
Q: Talk about the relationship that you have been able to build with the coaching staff over the course of this past year.
COUGILL: This coaching staff is a great group of guys. You can just tell that they will be your friend and help you in any way to get better on and off the court, but at the same time, they are also about getting down to business and they will tell you what you need to do and how that will help improve the team.
Q: Does it get a little more exciting for you when you get to Iowa City for a game and you start thinking about next year and being on the team?
COUGILL: Yeah, I get a little more excited every time I come over here for a game and sit behind the bench. I really enjoy the atmosphere here that the guys get to play in and that I will be able to be a part of in the future.
Q: Do you get a chance to talk to Brandon Wegher at all at school?
COUGILL: Not that much during the football season because they are focused on their game on a weekly basis.
Q: But, have you guys talked about both of you coming here to play next year?
COUGILL: Yeah, we have talked about it in our free time. He is really happy to be coming here.
Q: Will Heelan get two state titles this year, football and basketball?
COUGILL: We are hoping. (laugh)
