Texas corner commits

Originally, Texas cornerback Josh Jackson wanted to wait and take his official visits this fall before making any decisions on his college future. However, after a trip to Iowa this month, the 6-foot-1, 175-pounder started talking things over with his family and came to the conclusion there was no need to wait any longer. So Jackson called and gave his commitment to the Hawkeyes today.

"Today, me and my mom were just talking some more about the visit and how much we really liked it there," said Jackson. "The more I thought about it, it just kind of came to me that I needed to commit today."

The Hawkeyes actually offered Jackson in May after watching his progress in spring practice and seeing him compete in track at Lake Dallas High School where he was a state qualifier in the triple jump this spring. Assistant coach Bobby Kennedy led Iowa's recruiting efforts and took the call from the two-star prospect this morning.

"I called and talked to Bobby Kennedy, the coach recruiting this area, and told him I was ready to commit," Jackson said. "After that, I got to talk to all of the other coaches and tell them and they were all real excited."

Along with Iowa, Jackson also held scholarship offers from Nevada, Colorado State, New Mexico State, and Central Oklahoma, and received interest from TCU and Houston, among others. While he did not have a chance to tour many other schools, the Texas native felt he found the right fit with the Hawkeyes.

"I think it's a great fit," said Jackson. "The coaches have said I can come up there and make an impact at corner and help the team be successful. When I visited, I really liked all of the people I met, the academics, and everything."

With his commitment made, Jackson says he is shutting it down recruiting wise and looks forward to focusing only on his upcoming senior year at Lake Dallas.

"It feels great," Jackson said. "I'm really happy and excited about my decision and now the only thing I have to worry about is my senior season."
