Texas corner visits Iowa

Texas native Josh Jackson has been flying under the radar a bit this summer, but the Lake Dallas High School product is starting to emerge as a Division I cornerback prospect. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Jackson currently holds five scholarship offers and is receiving interest from a couple of in-state schools as well.

"I've got offers from Iowa, New Mexico State, Colorado State, Central Oklahoma, and Nevada," said Jackson. "So I'm staying in touch with all of those schools and then I'm also talking to Houston and TCU. They want to see some of my games this year before offering."

This month, Jackson was able to make his first visit to one of the schools on his list with a trip to the University of Iowa. For the two-star prospect, it was a new experience visiting the Midwest, but one that left him impressed with what the Hawkeyes have to offer.

"I visited Iowa on August 8," Jackson said. "I flew up there with my mom and we stayed for about three days, so we got to see the whole campus and meet all of the coaches and the players. It was good. I really enjoyed it."

"Really, it was a new experience," he continued. "I'd never been out to Iowa, so I got to see something new. It was really nice out there and everybody was really kind to us. It was real nice. I liked it."

Jackson, who is also a state qualifier in track in the triple jump, says the visit put the Hawkeyes at the top of his list, but he wants to make sure to take his time and see some of the other schools recruiting him before making any decisions.

"Iowa was definitely a place that I could see myself going," said Jackson. "I'm just trying to take it slow and make sure that I make the right decision, but it's definitely a place where I could see myself."

This fall, Jackson plans to make a return trip to Iowa City for an official visit and also wants to get to Nevada and Colorado State during the season. Then, he plans to sit down and make a more informed decision on his college future.

"It will probably be about the middle of the season when I make my decision," Jackson said. "I'm really just looking for a place where I can come in and be treated like family, where they have a good environment and a great coaching staff, a winning tradition, great players around me and great academics."

"A place where I can go and be successful even if the next level after college isn't there football wise," he continued. "Somewhere I can succeed not just in football, but academically too."
