Top JUCO DB Visiting Iowa This Weekend

While the Hawkeyes play host to the Fighting Illini this weekend at Kinnick Stadium, they will also have one very important guest in the stands. Dodge City Community College four star cornerback, Walner Belleus, will be visiting Iowa City.
The 5-foot-10 and 175 pound native of Immokalee, Florida is considered by many observers to be one of the top cover corners in the junior college ranks this year. You will hear no argument from Dodge City’s Head Football Coach John Rosetti, who says that Belleus is the best he has had in is 17 years of coaching.

“He is the type of player that can be an impact player in the Big Ten next year. He is what you would call a lockdown corner. We pretty much play bump and run coverage and Walner does not get beat,” Rosetti said.
Coach Rosetti feels that Belleus has better potential than any other corner he has ever coached, which includes the likes of Korey Banks, the cousin of former Hawkeye Brad Banks, who camped with the Miami Dolphins after playing at Mississippi State last year. Rosetti had Banks as a player when he was the defensive coordinator at Garden City Community College.
“I think he has the best skills of any of them,” said Rosetti. “He has good feet, quickness, great hip turns, and outstanding change of direction.”
Belleus will be visiting Iowa this weekend and the Hawkeyes are among the top three schools on his current list of college choices. He will also be visiting Georgia and Tennessee. The cornerback also has offers from Kansas, Michigan State, and South Carolina.
The play of the Hawkeyes has caught the eye of Belleus. He recently spoke with Rivals.com recruiting expert Jeremy Crabtree and had high praise for the Iowa defense.
“I really like Iowa’s reputation,” Bellus said. “I know they are a good program. I don’t know much about their style of play and the players and coaches, but everybody around here seems to think they’re a great program.”
Thus far this season Belleus, who has 4.4 speed, has 37 tackles and 4 interceptions. He has indicated that he would like to transfer at semester and participate in spring practice.
One of Belleus' teammates at Dodge City is former Hawkeye defensive lineman Steve Burch.
