Wegher headed to Iowa City

After picking up nearly twenty scholarship offers from near and far, four-star running back Brandon Wegher narrowed his choices down to three schools close to home. On Saturday night, the 5-foot-11, 206-pound Wegher took it one step further and ended his recruiting by announcing his college decision at a press conference in Sioux City.

Wegher opened things up by thanking everyone in attendance, especially his family and all of his coaches throughout his career. Then, with hats of each of his three finalists - Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas - sitting on the table in front of him, the four-star prospect talked about his decision and announced his choice.

"Out of all of the offers I had, I chose these three schools," said Wegher. "I'd say these schools recruited me the hardest. They all had great facilities and great coaches. Any place I would have picked would have been a great fit for me. But the school I chose probably recruited me the hardest and wanted me the most, and I think it's the best fit for me. I'm going to be a Hawkeye."

In addition to Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas, Wegher also held scholarship offers from Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa State, Auburn, Penn State, Illinois, Texas Tech, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Minnesota, among others.

As a junior, the all-state running back rushed for 2,334 yards and scored 34 touchdowns in leading Sioux City Heelan to the state championship game in Class 3A.

HawkeyeReport.com will have much more on Wegher's decision, including a full interview on the way.
