Wieland picks hometown Hawkeyes
After landing an offer from Iowa this past week, Iowa City native Nate Wieland has verbally committed to the hometown Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Wieland announced his decision today after taking his official visit to the University of Iowa over the weekend.
"The visit this weekend really impressed me and it's just too good to turn down," said Wieland. "Being a hometown kid, it's just what you dream of."
Prior to the weekend, Wieland was verbally committed to Northern Illinois as a quarterback, but now will be staying home to play linebacker for the Hawkeyes.
"It feels really great," Wieland said. "I'm really excited for the future as a Hawkeye."
Wieland is commitment No. 16 for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Class of 2017.
A quarterback in high school, Wieland completed 110 of 196 pass attempts for 1,671 yards and 9 touchdowns for City High this past season. On the ground, he finished with 129 carries for 741 yards and 11 touchdowns.
