Wisnieski makes the call

The Iowa Hawkeyes have landed their sixteenth commitment in the Class of 2013. The latest verbal pledge comes from the No. 2 ranked player in the state of Iowa this year, tight end Jon Wisnieski from West Des Moines Dowling Catholic High School. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Wisnieski made the call to the Iowa coaching staff this afternoon.

"I've been thinking for a while now that I wanted to commit to Iowa, so today I got a hold of Coach Brian Ferentz and did it," said Wisnieski. "He was really excited and said they can't wait to get me in the program."

The Hawkeyes were the first team offer Wisnieski back in December, which is something that he always remembered even as other offers came in from schools such as Nebraska, Iowa State, Purdue, Kansas State, and Ole Miss, among others.

"Iowa was the first ones to contact me and the first ones to offer," Wisnieski said. "They did a good job of recruiting me and really made me feel at home there. I like that it's not too far from home, I know I'll get a good education, and I'm really looking forward to how they use their tight ends."

Wisnieski was not necessarily planning to commit this summer, but with several schools starting to fill up their classes, including Iowa, the three-star prospect decided to take a closer look at things this month.

"Everything this year has been kind of different because the whole recruiting process has been moved up quite a bit," said Wisnieski. "I heard that Iowa might only have four scholarships left, so I started looking at things closer and it just solidified my decision. I'm excited about the opportunity at Iowa."

Now that his college choice has been made, Wisnieski looks forward to putting the recruiting process behind him and focusing on his senior year at Dowling.

"Really, I think it ended up being the perfect time to do it," he said. "Just being able to get this out of the way, it feels really good and now I can just focus on my senior season and school."
