2003 Freshman Preview: DT George Eshareturi

One diamond in the rough in the 2003 Iowa football recruiting class may turn out to be defensive tackle George Eshareturi of The Bronx, New York. The 6-foot-3, 290-pound Eshareturi was named the 2002 Bronx/Manhattan Player of the Year by the New York Times, yet was not all that highly recruited out of Mt. Saint Michael Academy.

Eshareturi recorded 10 sacks and 63 tackles during his senior season. In addition to the New York Times' Player of the Year honor, he was named first team All State, first team All Conference, team MVP, and the CHSFL Defensive Player of the Year. Eshareturi finished his three year varsity career at Mt. Saint Michael with 126 tackles and 18 sacks.
