Angerer an Impressive Multi-Sport Athlete

Bettendorf, Iowa linebacker Pat Angerer has kept himself busy this spring by competing in not one, but two different sports for his high school, often on the very same day. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound junior excels at both soccer and track and is making a bit of local history by competing in both this spring.

“This past weekend, Angerer became the first player in school history to compete in two different sports on the same day,” said Bettendorf assistant football and track coach Matt Drinkall. “Saturday morning, he played in his first of two soccer games that day and recorded an assist before receiving a yellow card. After he exited the game, he came down to the track and won the 100 meters with a time of 10.98. He then went back up to the soccer field for his second game and scored 3 goals and had 2 assists.”

Last Saturday was not a one time event for Angerer however, as he plans on playing both sports the entire spring, including another double duty performance this week.

“Pat is in fact doing both sports at the same time all spring,” Drinkall said. “Tomorrow night he will be playing in a soccer game against Davenport North and then coming over to the track meet to anchor our 4x100 team. He is doing a great job for us and an even better job of setting an example for all the other athletes at Bettendorf.”

As a junior on the football field last season, Angerer recorded an impressive 197 tackles, including 114 unassisted and 35 tackles for a loss. His busy schedule this spring will not allow him to make a visit to either Iowa or Iowa State's spring game.

“Pat has conflicting soccer tournaments so he cannot attend either game,” said Drinkall, who himself is a former Bettendorf standout athlete who had his walkon career as an Iowa football player cut short last year by an ankle injury.

Angerer continues to carry a scholarship offer from Iowa State and is hearing from several schools across the Midwest and beyond.

“I know his top 5 as of right now are ISU, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Penn State, and Iowa,” Drinkall said.
