Three weeks ago, Class of 2019 prospect Isaiah Azubuike attended Iowa's junior day with some of his teammates from St. Louis Lutheran North High School. On Saturday, the 5-foot-11, 195-pound Azubuike heard back from the Hawkeye coaching staff with news of a scholarship offer.
"My high school coach, Carl Reed, called me and told me that Iowa offered," said Azubuike. "He told me to call Iowa coach LeVar Woods."
"When I called, it went really well," he continued. "I really like Coach Woods' energy."
On March 5, Azubuike visited Iowa City with a group that included teammates Ronnie Perkins, Devin Ruffin, Donovan Marshall, and Traevon Williams. The trip left a favorable impression on the 2019 prospect, who has been watching the Hawkeyes from afar for a couple years now.
"I've always thought they had good football program, so it's nice to see how they believe I can make a positive impact on it," Azubuike said.
Overall, Iowa is offer No. 8 for Azubuike as the Hawkeyes join Iowa State, Kansas State, Syracuse, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, Central Michigan, and Dartmouth on his list.
Currently, the 5-foot-11, 195-pounder is receiving interest from schools on both sides of the ball and could play outside linebacker or running back in college.
As a sophomore, Azubuike finished the season with 37 tackles, 10 TFL, and one interception on defense to go along with 57 carries for 490 yards and 11 touchdowns on offense.
