Per a release from the Iowa athletic department, Hawkeye starting quarterback Cade McNamara has been named to the 2023 Maxwell Award Watch List, announced by the Maxwell Football Club on Monday.
The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the most outstanding player in college football.
McNamara saw the bulk of his time in college football in 2021, when he led Michigan to the Big Ten Championship and the school's first College Football Playoff berth. That season, he completed 210 passes for 2,576 yards and 15 touchdowns.
This will be his first season starting for the Hawkeyes after announcing his decision to transfer in December.
"He's a strong leader," Kirk Ferentz said of McNamara at Big Ten Media Days last week. "We were believers just watching him throughout the season on crossover film, but as you know, when you're on the field with a guy you get a different feeling, and we're glad he's with us."
In addition to McNamara, several other Big Ten athletes were named to the list, including Braelon Allen (Wisconsin), Tanner Mordecai (Wisconsin), Hudson Card (Purdue), Blake Corum (Michigan), J.J. McCarthy (Michigan), Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State), Marvin Harrison Jr. (Ohio State), Nicholas Singleton (Penn State), Taulia Tagovailoa (Maryland) and Isaiah Williams (llinois).
